How much does it cost to travel in Middle East?
Enter the world of the Middle East and you will be captivated by the magical souks (undercover markets), astounded by the deserts which unfold as far as the eye can see, and have your breath taken away by the majestic ancient ruins. Yet, sadly, this is also a region renowned for conflict and difficulties. It is therefore essential to check the latest government advice from your home country before embarking on a trip to the Middle East.
Due to the political situation and cultural barriers, many destinations in the Middle East are (sometimes unneccesarily) unfrequented by tourists. In countries such as Syria and Jordan, locals are generally only too pleased to share food and stories with the new backpacker in town. These countries are relatively inexpensive to travel in, a decent dinner can be bought for $8 and a budget room for under $20.
Cross into Israel (ensuring you obtain the latest information and advice regarding border crossings) and the culture changes before your eyes. Accommodation in Israel compares to that in the US, a budget room in a hostel starts at $40 and a mid-range comfortable room can easily hit the $100 mark. Of course, your budget needs to be carefully weighed against what you are hoping to visit and experience on a given trip.
