How much does it cost to travel in North and West Africa?

The countries of North and West Africa are diverse and colourful. You can explore bustling markets in Morocco, trek across beautiful hills and mountains in Tunisia, tour ancient pyramids in Egypt and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Gambia. Despite the natural and man-made beauties rife in North and West Africa, this is also a region with troubled areas and it is therefore highly advisable to check government advice in your home country before embarking on a trip.

The average cost of travelling in this region is low; in Tunisia and Egypt a single backpacker can travel comfortably on $45 a day, for Ghana the cost is around $55 a day, and Morocco is considerably more pricey due to it's accessibility from Europe. Although transport in many areas can be limited or slow, it does give you a true taste of the local culture.
