How much does it cost to travel in Southern Africa?
The countries of Southern Africa are (on average) the most expensive to travel in throughout Africa. Madagascar, renowned for its wildlife and lush vegetation, costs approximately $70 a day for a solo backpacker. In South Africa, safari tours and sightseeing in exciting cities such as Cape Town are likely to set you back around $100 a day.
Transport can be slow and infrequent throughout Southern Africa. However, locals are generally extremely welcoming and ready to share their stories and food with weary backpackers. The mountains, wildlife and waterfalls are also unforgettable in the diverse region of Southern Africa.
